Events: Cocktails and Conversation with Bill Wiley Thurs. 4/18

By Ian Glomski on April 16 2019

On Thursday April 18, we’ll kick off another new series, “Cocktails and Conversations”. We’ll explore seemingly mundane or obviously provocative topics, such as “What is beauty?”, “Pop culture: do we need it?”, and Artificial Intelligence. Vitae will offer a space where the geeky, profane, and mundane can all intersect over craft cocktails. You may make new acquaintances among professors and community activists, or meet old friends with new topics for discussion. Either way, you’ll leave with new or refined ways of thinking.

On Thursday, April 18, Bill Wylie, Professor and Associate Chair in UVA’s Art Department, will guide us us through conceptual and visual conundrums around “beauty.” Over beautiful craft cocktails.

William Wylie works in photography and video. His research is primarily concerned with the recognition of how spaces are transformed by a variety of forces, including humans. His photographs and films have been shown both nationally and internationally. His work can be found in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, National Gallery of Art, Smithsonian American Art Museum, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, Virginia Museum of Fine Art, and Yale University Art Museum, among others.

6-8pm. Light dinner options will be available for purchase.
