Intimate Listening Concert Series: Songs of Love and Longing

Tue. August 27 , 7-9P. Music starts at 7:30P

Songs of Love and Longing. By Schubert, Spohr, Schumann and Mahler

Join Linda Blondel (piano), Heather Hightower (soprano), and James Tobin (clarinet) for an evening of songs from the German lyric tradition. This hour of music will take you on a chronological journey of wandering want,  worldly love, and contemplation of love beyond this life. As a fun teaser, the Mahler selection will be the final movement of his fourth symphony, adapted to be performed by just these three parts. Our searches have not yielded recordings of this arrangement so join us for what just might be the first known performance of this musical setting.

In lieu of a cover fee, musicians are asking that attendees ascribe to a 1-2 drink minimum purchase.

Linda Blondel regularly plays recitals and is the pianist at Cove Presbyterian Church.

Heather Hightower is the founder of The Center for Vocal Study.

James Tobin, Charlottesville native, performs and teaches throughout Virginia.
